Gallery – Terraced Garden

The client wanted a complete re-planting of her front terraced garden, leaving the existing trees. The landscaping was in place and consisted of levels of varying heights, widths and lengths.

The site is very steep and could only be accessed from the drive at the top or via a single set of steps that run from the top of the drive down to the road, through the garden. Access is difficult between the levels and involves a lot of clambering.

The soil is quite hydrophobic and sandy so I applied compost and cow manure. Light conditions vary from full sun at the top of the garden where there is no tree cover and it is more exposed, to part sun and dappled light, so plant choices had to vary accordingly. The client has installed a watering system, but the plants on the lowest level need to cope with wet feet as the water moves down and this area remains moist for longer.
